Sky tugged the hood of her coat a bit closer to her face. Her brown eyes stared out at horror at the part of town her sisters had just ventured into. She had blinked several times to make sure, but it had most definitely been them who had been giggling on the bus and had gotten off only a few seconds before her. Her imagination ran wild as she tried to imagine what there businsess was here. If they'd wanted to go to a club they would have gone to the loca. It was closer to the home and more respectable. Of course all clubs were clubs and there was a certain extent to their respectability.
She felt strangely detached from the nightlife of this place. Sky was still wearing a pair of careworn jeans, sneakers, and a plain solid colored black shirt. Her hair lacked any lacings or baubles and was tied back in a serious ponytail. For the few seconds she'd been lost in thought the two bobbing red miniskirts had disappeared a bit further and she ran to catch up to Lily and Iris. She squinted and fell back as flashing lights came into her view. Her dark brown eyes squinted as they made out the flashing light. The Siren Song.
Quite strangely Sky's mind drifted to Greek mythology. Sirens were the bird-women who sang songs to lure sailors to their deaths. The beaches of their islands were lined with the bones of the dead who had crashed into cliffs. Sky felt a chill ran down her spine as her mind quietly sorted through this information. What else had her sisters spoken of in their rooms earlier today? She closed her eyes for a moment to remember.
"Hey Iris, we're officially muses now!" Lily had said cheerfully throwing her pointe shoes into the air in celebration. Sky had thought it was some sort of ranking at the ballet or perhaps just a role. She was, after all, fairly cluless about the changing world of dance. "Yeah we are. Sing the siren's song and dance the golden dance." Iris had replied in a sing-song voice. "Mom and dad would kill us if they found out though. We can't tell them." Lily had said in a more soft tone her fingers rubbing the material of invisble cloth she couldn't make out. "Or Sky. You know she's a tattle-tale. Besides it wouldn't do her any good. She's not going to come and play piano at Siren Song either. Can you imagine her doing that? All she ever does is play things from people who died a hundred years ago."Iris had chimed souring Sky's feelings a little but it was still typical talk from her sisters.
Her dark eyes flickered open under her hood again, pondering the terms Lily and Iris had used. Muse. The Greek goddesses of the arts. There were supposed to be nine of them, each symbolizing a different aspect of literature, music, and art. With these thoughts still in mind she swerved around a few people and attempted to duck into the door without attracting any attention. She was sure that she caught a few looks, but no one stopped her and asked to see an ID. That was just fine with Sky because frankly she was sixteen and only barely old enough to get a driver's license. Legally she was a minor and shouldn't be within a hundred yards of a place like this. Regularly she wouldn't come here even if someone had told her she could but circumstances were made different by the detective work she was doing.
Sky felt awkward in the flood of cool light of the club. After a few bewildered stares she found her way to a darker place where no obnoxious lights were flashing. She pulled off her hood and looked around for her sisters, but saw no one. She sighed and leaned against a wall, trying to puzzle out why they were here and if it had simply been foolish for her to follow in teh first place.
