.the past
It all started with a red ribbon. The revolutionary war had begun, and in Riverton, Ohio, it would change everything. It was a cold, dark night, the moon hidden behind a veil of clouds. Only the whispers of the grass swaying in the wind could be heard at the little farmhouse out of town, but there was something more. Something everyone in the town was not expecting. But they'd know soon enough.
A little girl named Annabelle lost her prized possesion, a silk ribbon she used to tie her beautiful brunette curls back. Everyone loved Annabelle, she was only five and the friendliest little girl you'd ever meet. But she was impulsive, and the minute that ribbon flew out of her hair she chased it across the field. Her mother never noticed until afterwards she had not come in, and was franticly looking for her, assuming she was hiding in the house like she usually did. But Annabelle was far from the house, and had ended up in the dark forest at the edge of their property.
And that's when the massacre started, with poor little Annabelle. Soon after they found her they attacked, torching farms and killing innocent civilians. Blood was everywhere, and bodies littered the streets. Annabelle's mother and father escaped accidentally, while out looking for the child. Their were few survivors, and their lives were destroyed. No one found out who torched and tortured the town, but still the civilians built it up and repaired things, but then the hauntings began taking place.
No one ever found Annabelle's body. Rumour has it the murderers took it as a souvenier, others say she never died in the first place. But that rumour was quickly killed at the sight of her blood-covered ghost, roaming the destroyed farmlands and woods, searching for her ribbon. The ribbon was spotted flying around in the air at random places, but no one would touch it. So, the ribbon still appears, and no one spoke of the massacre much again.
.the present
Today, the town is quiet and populated. Riverton has never been busier, however, with the addition of new buildings and attractions, more and more people are moving in and settling down. But more and more are also leaving, finding their houses haunted by ghosts of the past. And it's not just houses, commercial buildings as well. But it doesn't seem to bother most. Elders in the town refuse to speak of the topic of the massacre, though the young ones are getting curious.
The teenagers are the most likely ones to try and find this out. A particularly rebellious generation, most aren't afraid of places like the warehouse, a place some elders call cursed. But mostly everyone in the town is afraid of the ghosts, and what would happen if they could reach and grab the ribbon, carelessly blowing in the wind. No one knew, until now.
.the future
What happens when a new girl in town stumbles upon the ribbon, laying on the ground outside her front door? Some suspect she's a relative of little Annabelle, that her parents, who had moved, had another child who in turn had more, leading to this girl. Whatever it is, this girl plays a special role in the uncovering of many secrets. But some are out to stop her, while others want to learn for themselves what exactly could be hiding in the dark past of Riverton.
So, will you be one to help the girl? Or get in her way? Or will you do whatever thing possible to discover for yourself everything before anyone else? Or will you simply ignore the fact? Whatever you choose, it better be the right decision, because once you're into the mystery there's no backing out. Welcome to Riverton, and remember, watch your back. You never know who, or what, is watching you.
